If your pet ends up at our facility as a stray, each owner is required to provide proof of ownership upon reclaiming. This includes pictures, vet records, and/or microchip registration. Reclaims cannot take place without the proper proof of ownership.
All canine and felines must be vaccinated for Rabies. With each intake/reclaim (even adoptions) animals have to be vaccinated for Rabies before leaving our facility unless owners can provide proof of the up-to-date vaccination. If proof of vaccination is not indicated, owners must pay the fee for the Rabies Vaccination to be administered by a licensed veterinarian.
For each stray reclaim there are fees in place to insure or prevent further impoundment and to limit the exposure and spread of diseases. Each animal is given a vaccination, dewormed, and given parasite prevention upon intake. For each reclaim, the owners are responsible for the reimbursement to the Leitchfield Animal Shelter for any medical fees and/or boarding fees that apply. With Secondary impound, If the Animal is not altered the base fee will be doubled. Repeat offenders will be doubled upon each impoundment. It is our mission for every animal to be spayed/neutered, to reduce overpopulation stray, abandoned, or mistreated animals.
